The assumptions behind the estimate
Assumes you filed Form IT-2104 with your federal W-4 filing status: single and head of household mark "Single or Head of household"; married marks "Married". The IT-2104 gives no allowance for yourself or your spouse, so single and married use zero; a head of household with one job gets the 2 allowances from worksheet line 15. No dependents and no additional withholding. Assumes you filed Form IT-2104 with your federal W-4 filing status and no dependents. For New York City (line 2 of the form) single and married use zero allowances; a head of household with one job gets 2 and uses the single table. The Yonkers resident surcharge is a percentage of the state tax already calculated. The Yonkers nonresident tax applies if you work in Yonkers and do not live there, on all your pay for the period (as if all your workdays were in Yonkers).
What is not included
Does not include the MCTMT (metropolitan commuter transportation mobility tax): the employer pays it and it is not deducted from your pay. New York City does not withhold tax from people who work there but live elsewhere.

Yes. In New York we calculate 2 cities, counties or districts with a local tax. Choose where you live and where you work in the calculator to include it.
Is overtime taxed more?
There is no special rate for overtime: it is added to your pay for the period and withholding is figured on the total, which is why the check grows less than you expect. From 2025 through 2028 you can deduct from federal income tax the extra half of your overtime (up to $12,500; $25,000 if married) if your income is under $150,000; it only lowers each paycheck's withholding if you entered it on your W-4.
How accurate is this paycheck calculator?
It uses the official 2026 withholding rules from the IRS and New York. It is still an estimate: your employer knows your W-4, your deductions and your year-to-date earnings. It is not tax or legal advice.
