This is District of Columbia income tax. Your annualized pay is reduced by $4,300 per allowance and DC's schedule (4% to 10.75%) is applied. We assume a Form D-4 for one job, no dependents: 1 allowance if single and 2 if head of household or married with one income in the household. DC has not updated its withholding tables since its 2022 notice.

The assumptions behind the estimate

DC has not published new withholding tables since 2018. We use its latest official instruction still in force (October 2022 notice): DC's tax rate schedule and $4,300 a year per allowance. We assume you filed Form D-4 with the allowances its worksheet gives for one job, no dependents: one if single, two if head of household and two if married filing jointly with one income in the household. The schedule is the same for every filing status.

What is not included

Does not include DC Paid Family Leave, which only the employer pays. DC has no other payroll deductions for employees. Your employer may use a different per-allowance amount, so actual withholding may vary slightly.

Frequently asked questions

How much tax is taken out of a paycheck in District of Columbia?

Yes. This is District of Columbia income tax.

Are there city or county taxes in District of Columbia?

We found no local taxes withheld from employee paychecks in District of Columbia.

Is overtime taxed more?

There is no special rate for overtime: it is added to your pay for the period and withholding is figured on the total, which is why the check grows less than you expect. From 2025 through 2028 you can deduct from federal income tax the extra half of your overtime (up to $12,500; $25,000 if married) if your income is under $150,000; it only lowers each paycheck's withholding if you entered it on your W-4.

How accurate is this paycheck calculator?

It uses the official 2026 withholding rules from the IRS and District of Columbia. It is still an estimate: your employer knows your W-4, your deductions and your year-to-date earnings. It is not tax or legal advice.
